Redbox, America’s destination for entertainment, today announced its top 10 movie rentals of 2013, and the winners of the third annual Redbox® Movie Awards, offering a peek into America’s movie preferences and living-room trends.
The 10 most-rented Redbox movies of 2013* are:
1. Identity Thief
2. The Heat
3. World War Z
5. Olympus Has Fallen
6. Django Unchained
7. Grown Ups 2
8. White House Down
9. Here Comes the Boom
10. Now You See Me
Redbox’s stats also offer a glimpse into the genres and actors that Americans most invited into their homes.
“For the third year in a row, comedy and action titles have taken over our list of the most popular movie rentals,” said Kiera Hynninen, SVP of Marketing at Redbox. “With Identity Thief, The Heat and World War Z topping the charts it’s clear that Americans are looking to escape into a world of laughter and thrills.”
Melissa McCarthy’s hilarious roles in Identity Thief and The Heat made her the year’s most-rented actress and solidified her place as America’s newest sweetheart. Meanwhile, Bruce Willis’s roles in Red 2, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and A Good Day to Die Hard pushed everyone’s favorite hero to the top of the most-rented actors list.
Other noteworthy milestones: Olympus Has Fallen was the fastest movie to surpass one million rentals, in just three days; Now You See Me stayed in the daily top 10 longer than any other title, at 63 days; World War Z was the top-renting Blu-ray Disc®; and The Imposter was the top-renting documentary. The most streamed title on Redbox InstantTM by Verizon was Marvel’s The Avengers.**
